Back in 2018, Ben and James decided that we needed somewhere to buy and sell trade stock.
Our first place to consider was Facebook, the way that Facebook is super convenient we realised there wasn’t a group on there that could be used to buy and sell trade stock, we were very surprised at that time that there wasn’t a trade only group, just Facebook market place, so we set up the trade only group – Trade To Trade underwriting.
Within the first 6 months we had 1500 trade members, the popularity of the group was made very clear to us, it seems that this is what the motor trade had been lacking, a Trade only platform, ran by traders, for traders.
We quickly found as the group continued to grow to around 4000 members that although there were tools on Facebook for us to manage the users, we wanted to keep improving the service we could provide to our traders. This is where the idea of the App came from where we could build a system that could integrate with our growing customer base on Facebook and add extra added value by giving them more details about cars, more ways for us to honour the integrity of our dealers by being able to verify who they are and what they did.
We grew to 7000 on launch of the App providing a SaaS platform that users were able to sign up and use. The uptake on the App greatly over achieved our expectations and we were quickly caught in a situation where our infrastructure was not sustainable for the volume of data and members we were dealing with this has lead to multiple improvements and and full redesign of our app within the first 18 months.
